Various - The Emotional, Cosmic & Occult World Of Joe Meek
Take a trip through the production-genius of 'sixties pop-pioneer Joe Meek with a mix of hits and real out-there obscurities.
Joe Meek was a producer and songwriter responsible for some of the best-loved beat hits of the early-1960's. Operating out of his home-studio in his London flat on Holloway Road, he working with artists such as The Tornadoes, Heinz, John Leyton and the Honeycombs, and developed pioneering experimental recording techniques, such as over-dubbing, sampling and echo, using hand-built equipment.
Designed to be highly listenable, there's never a dull moment amongst these songs which cover subjects close to Joes' heart, such as vampires, love (and the lack of it), death, outer space, the human soul, Buddy Holly, and more.
An indispensable compilation of 'sixties pop that pushed limited studio limits to lo-fi shimmering experimental pop beauty and fun, featuring The Blue Rondos, The Blue Men, Jason Eddie and the Centremen, The Sound Offs, The Moontrekkers, Johnny Leyton, The Cryin' Shames, Mike Berry, The Outlaws, Chick Lewis, Glenda Collins and even Joe himself, warbling out a tune.
