Sleater-Kinney - One Beat
Sleater-Kinney's sixth album, One Beat, was originally released in 2002 on Kill Rock Stars and was their most musically. vocally, and lyrically inventive record to date.
Formed in 1994 by guitarists/vocalists Corin Tucker (Heavens To Betsy, Cadillaca) and Carrie Brownstein (Excuse 17, The Spells), both active in the riot grrrl scene of the early-90's, Sleater-Kinney were joined in 1996 by drummer Janet Weiss (Quasi), and their drive for continual re-invention and exploration of their sound led them to become one of the most acclaimed and successful indie-rock bands of their time.
Recorded with long-standing producer John Goodmason, the album was written against the backdrop of the 9/11 attacks and Tucker's recent motherhood, and these personal and wider political themes are referenced seamlessly in a way only a band like Sleater-Kinney can.
This edition, remastered by Creg Calbi, was reissued, along with the band's other first seven albums, by Sub Pop in 2014.
