Sleater-Kinney - No Cities To Love
Sleater-Kinney's eighth album, No Cities To Love, was released in 2015 on Sub Pop, after the band's ten-year hiatus.
Formed in 1994 by guitarists/vocalists Corin Tucker (Heavens To Betsy, Cadillaca, The Corin Tucker Band) and Carrie Brownstein (Excuse 17, The Spells, Wild Flag), both active in the riot grrrl scene of the early-90's, Sleater-Kinney were joined in 1996 by drummer Janet Weiss (Quasi, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks), and their drive for continual re-invention and exploration of their sound led them to become one of the most acclaimed and successful indie-rock bands of their time.
Recorded in secret with long-time producer John Goodmason, No Cities To Love is a triumphant record that marked the explosive return of a band constantly reinventing not only their sound, but their place in the indie-rock world. While the album is undeniably radio-friendly in production, it is also intense and unrelenting right from the start, "we sound possessed on these songs," says Brownstein, "willing it all - the entire weight of the band and what it means to us–back into existence."
"The core of this record is our relationship to each other, to the music, and how all of us still felt strongly enough about those to sweat it out in the basement and to try and reinvent our band," adds Tucker. With No Cities to Love, "we went for the jugular."
