Nina Simone - Let It All Out

Nina Simone - Let It All Out

  • £23.99

Nina Simone recorded seven albums for Philips between 1964 and 1967, including Pastel Blues, I Put A Spell On You, and Wild Is The Wind, each produced by Hal Mooney, and considered by many to constitute a period of Nina at her very best, emotionally raw, creatively exciting. Simone defied the pigeon-holes of any comfortable genre, but on these records paid direct tribute to the jazz, blues, R&B, gospel and folk songs that gave her voice such power, and through which her talent was given not only wings, but infinite directions to fly.

Let It Out, Simone's fifth album for Philips see's the production stripped down to a classic jazz quartet, reminiscent in sound and song-choice to her earlier Colpix records. Despite the title, Let It Out is, for the most part, the sound of Simone at her most controlled, with the exception of her rendition of Bob Dylan's 'Ballad Of Hollis Brown' and the acapella 'Images,' which is delivered by Nina at her most confrontationally vulnerable and powerfully raw.
