Kuumba-Toudie Heath - Kawaida
Kawaida is an essential album of spiritual modal jazz by drummer Kuumba-Toudie Heath (aka Albert Tootie Heath), joined by, amongst other luminaries, Herbie Hancock and Don Cherry.
Recorded at the end of 1969, and released in 1970, it's a sprawling, listenable, and essentially groovy record that takes its place besides the best work of Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane in terms of its musical vision and political/spiritual consciousness.
