Candy And The Kisses - The Scepter Sessions

  • £26.99

Candy And The Kisses were formed in 1964 in Staten Island, NY by teenage sisters Beryl "Candy" Nelson and Suzanne Nelson, and their friend Jeanette Johnson. Following two singles on Cameo Records ('The 81' and 'Solider Baby'), the group signed to Florence Greenberg's Scepter Records and worked with the song-writing team of Josephine Armstead, Valerie Simpson, and Nicholas Ashford, releasing four singles for the label during 1965 and 1966 ('Keep On Searchin'' b/w 'Together,' 'Sweet And Lovely' b/w 'Out In The Streets Again,' 'Tonight's The Night' b/w 'The Last Time,' and 'Let Love Win' b/w 'The Last Time').

Though Scepter Records is known for launching the careers of The Shirelles, Tammi Terrell, Dionne Warwick and more, Candy And The Kisses failed to find the same kind of chart success, and following a final single for Decca Records in 1968 ('Chains Of Love'), the group split, and Candy retired from the music business.

Collected here on LP for the first time, lovingly packaged by Sundazed Records, are the complete Scepter recordings, including all single sides, plus eight originally unreleased tracks, creating the sparkling debut album that never was, filled to the brim with 'sixties pop-fizz'n'sweetness, but matched with a certain swagger and sophisticated boom-boom!
