Aretha Franklin - ARETHA
Aretha Franklin is considered one of America's greatest ever performers. Gifted with a multi-octave voice, her unrivalled career spanned six decades and moved millions of people around the world.
Arranged in mostly chronological order, ARETHA opens with 'Never Grow Old' (recorded at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit as a young teen, and released as part of her first single in 1956 by J.V.B Records) and closes with her stunning live performance of '(You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman' at The 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in 2015. However, the majority of the collection is dedicated to her time on Atlantic Records between 1967 and 1979, and along with her best-loved hits, includes previously unreleased alternate takes, demos, and rarities such as 'Someday We'll All Be Free' from the soundtrack to Malcolm X.
Celebrated artist Makeba KEEBS Rainey, designed the instantly iconic sleeve in her signature style, using a photograph by the legendary photographer, Neal Preston.
