Originally released in 1964 on Decca Records, The Applejacks' excellent self-titled debut - and only - album is now a highly sought-after collector's item, and contains their brilliant hit single 'Tell Me When' and epitomises the fun-fuelled youth-led pop revolution of the early-Sixties.

Formed in Solihull in 1963 by Martin Baggott (Lead Guitar), Phil Cash (Rhythm Guitar), Megan Davies (Bass), Gerry Freeman (drums), Don Gould (Organ), and Al Jackson (Vocals), they were the first 'Brumbeat' band to reach the Top-10. Childhood friends Baggot, Cash, Davies and Freeman had played together in the skiffle group The Crestas, performing at a local youth club. They were strictly an instrumental band until Jackson joined in 1963, and they began performing rock'n'roll. As with most British outfits of the era, The Applejacks were heavily inspired by American R&B, and along with their poppier beat songs, the album includes their garage-y versions of 'Hello Josephine,' 'Too Much Monkey Business,' 'Kansas City,' and 'What'd I Say,' with all members of the six-piece band adding their wild backing vocals to uproarious effect!

This CD issue of The Applejacks also comes with ten bonus tracks, consisting of all their Decca singles, complete with b-sides, originally issued between 1964 and 1965. These additional tracks include their second single 'Like Dreamers Do' (written especially for them by John Lennon and Paul McCartney) and the exceptional first recorded version of Ray Davies' 'I Go To Sleep,' making this collection absolutely essential.
