Robert Nighthawk - Sweet Black Angel & More Chicago Blues

  • £10.99

Robert Nighthawk was one of the most influential blues guitarists of the post-war period, a stature he achieved without the benefit of many hit records. While a contemporary of fellow Chicago blues pioneer Muddy Waters, Nighthawk never saw the same commercial success, though his song 'Sweet Black Angel Blues' became a standard when B.B. King covered it as 'Sweet Little Angel.'

Taken from his late-1940's and early-1950's recordings, this collection brings together Nighthawk's key solo releases, as well as performances with singer Ethel Mae, and his and his trio, The Nighthawks, with pianist Ernie Lane and bassist Willie Dixon. Also featured across these twenty-three tracks are revered blues musicians, Roosevelt Sykes, Sunnyland Slim, Brownie McGhee and Pinetop Perkins
