Habibi - Somewhere They Can't Find Us / Call Our Own

  • £9.99

Habibi formed in Brooklyn in 2011, and released their acclaimed self-titled album in 2013, a blend of garage-punk and 'sixties girl-group harmonies. Their 2018 EP, Cardamom Garden, broke boundaries by introducing Farsi-sung tunes, helping to "shed rigid definitions of what constitutes American music" (Pitchfork), and a second album, Anywhere But Here, was released in early 2020.
Now signed to Kill Rock Stars, this 7" single is Habibi's first release for the legendary label, and it's an instant classic, evoking the downtown post-punk gritty-disco of ESG and Tom Tom Club. Produced by Mike Stroud (Ratatat) and mastered by Heba Kadry, 'Somewhere They Can't Find Us' is a sing-song dance-party with sirens blaring and maracas shaking, while 'Call Our Own' is a slinky pop-noir plea for escapism with a groove that never ends.
