Eddie Holland - From Mercury to Motown: 1958-1962

JASMINE RECORDS

  • £10.99

From Mercury to Motown traces the singing career of Eddie Holland, one third of the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland trio of songwriters/producers that created some of Motown's biggest hits. This twenty-three track package includes his solo recordings made for the Mercury, Kudo, United Artists and Motown labels between 1958 and 1962. Included is his Top-Ten R&B hit from 1961 'Jamie' and all the tracks on his eponymous solo album, Eddie Holland issued in 1962.

Included are songs written by Berry Gordy Jnr., brother Brian Holland, William 'Smoky' Robinson, Lamont Dozier as well as ones he co-wrote with those writers and others in the Jobete Music fold. The package is a snapshot of the Motown Sound from the days before Holland-Dozier-Holland put their stamp on the label's output - a time when individuality ruled.

Eddie Holland said he never wanted to be a 'pop star', but this collection proves beyond doubt he was an exceptionally talented singer with a great voice.
