Neil Young began his series of Official Bootleg live recordings, taken from his extensive archives, with the autumn 2021 release of Carnegie Hall 1970. Royce Hall, 1971 is one of three further instalments released in spring 2022, alongside Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971 and Citizen Kane Jr. Blues.
Recorded on January 30, 1971, this concert was performed at the beautiful Royce Hall on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles near the end of Neil Young’s 1971 solo tour. This sixteen-song acoustic set features Young on guitar, harmonica, piano and vocals, and includes 'Journey Through The Past,' 'Ohio,' 'Don’t Let It Bring You Down,' and 'Love In Mind.'
Featuring a sleeve replicating the original bootleg artwork, the album has been mixed by Neil Young and Niko Bolas using the original analogue tape, providing much higher quality recordings than have previously existed.
