Neil Young began his series of Official Bootleg live recordings, taken from his extensive archives, with the autumn 2021 release of Carnegie Hall 1970. Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971 is one of three further instalments released in spring 2022, alongside Royce Hall, 1971 and Citizen Kane Jr. Blues.
A solo acoustic show recorded on February 1st, 1971, with Neil Young on vocals, guitar, piano and harmonica, this was the last night of Young’s 1971 solo tour that also featured shows that have been released as the much-loved albums Massey Hall and Young Shakespeare. This show was marked by the fact that it was the first time Young played harmonica live. The album features fifteen songs including 'On The Way Home,' 'Heart of Gold,' 'The Needle And The Damage Done' and 'A Man Needs A Maid.'
Featuring a sleeve replicating the original bootleg artwork, the album has been mixed by Neil Young and Niko Bolas using the original analogue tape, providing much higher quality recordings than have previously existed.
